Better Health through Digestion with an Ayurvedic Diet
Soups are the fallback food. Whether under stress, ill, or recovering from illness or cleansing, soups give digestive organs a much needed rest. The recommended diet after pancha karma treatment is samsarjana karma, a progression of soups from light to heavy that build agni and gradually ojas as well. These soups can be served as well to help sick patients rebuild agni and ojas. Samsarjana karma literally means a "graded administration of diet". The diet is structured in stages from liquid to increasingly solid called manda, peya, vilepi, odana, yusha, and kichari.

Manda: Rice Water

Manda means liquid. When sick, most people lose their appetite. Manda is the first meal to be taken when the appetite returns (four hours). It is basically water in which basmati is boiled. Use 14 parts of water to 1 part of Basmati rice. It should be served lukewarm with a tsp of ghee and a pinch of black salt. ...

Is there a recommended vegan substitute for sauteing with ghee, that would be easy on the system - digestion, liver, etc? I've heard conflicting things about coconut oil, and that olive oil should not be heated.
