Ayurveda Lifestyle Ashwagandha
Ashwagandha can help you to feel calm, steady, and stable. Times of transition can be very stressful on your system. If you notice a little bit of anxiety creeping into your mind, find it difficult to sleep, or simply feel depleted, ashwagandha can keep you steady, energized, and stress free.

Feel Energized yet Calm

Does you sometimes feel fatigued and frazzled? Ashwagandha means "strength of a horse," suggesting its ability to make you feel strong, sturdy, and focused when you are feeling tired in the middle of the day. It won't, however, make you feel jittery or anxious like a cup of coffee. Ashwagandha is a tonic for drained adrenals, replenishing your storehouse of energy so you can be productive, alert, and clear up your mind.

Helps you Sleep

Ashwagandha is the perfect herb for insomnia because of its sleep-inducing qualities. Grounding and soothing to your nervous system, it relaxes your body and mind so you can drift easily into sleep, even when going through change while thoughts turn over and over in your mind. Thanks the repair and rejuvenating abilities of ashwagandha, your sleep will become more beneficial so you wake up fresh and strong.

Soothes Sore Muscles

Cold weather causes your muscles to tighten up and maybe even become sore. Ashwagandha nourishes your muscles so they stay loose and flexible. A little dose of Ashwagandha in your life can help keep your muscles comfortable and pain-free, especially when things start feeling tight and sore.

Ashwagandha is one of the most highly regarded and commonly used adaptogens in the Ayurvedic pharmacopoeia. Maximizing the bodies ability to resist stress, it enables the body to reserve and sustain vital energy throughout the day while promoting sound, restful sleep at night. It is considered one of the best herbs for calming Vata and for revitalizing the male reproductive system. Used by both men and women, it maintains proper nourishment of the tissues, particularly muscle and bone, while supporting proper function of the adrenals. This potent herb is also used as an anti-inflammatory to support comfortable joint movement. Ashwagandha prevents or minimizes imbalances that may lead to disease, whether from poor diet, lack of sleep, mental or physical strain, or chemical toxins in the environment. It has also been used to increase libido and potency, for it is said to bestow upon its user the vitality and strength of a horse*.

Increases These Qualities (Gunas)

Ayurveda helps you assess how you feel through the 20 main therapeutic feelings or qualities called gunas. Through the gunas you can articulate, experience and develop sensitivity to the signals your body sends you. Imbalanced gunas are the root of your imbalances. Every guna has an opposite which balances is (i.e. hot balances cold). You create balance by favoring diet and lifestyle choices that increase the opposite guna.

TASTES
Digestive Effects Help

The 6 Tastes

Taste has meaning in Ayurveda, and brings physical and emotional changes to your body. Taste is experienced on the tongue and is your body's reaction to foods much in the same way that your emotions are mental reactions to experiences. Sweet taste causes physical satisfaction and attraction whereas bitter taste causes discomfort and aversion. Kapha should use less sweet taste while Vata and Pitta would benefit from using more sweet taste. One of the first signs of illness is that your taste and appetite for food changes. The six tastes are sweet, sour, salty, pungent, bitter, and astringent. Do you crave foods with any of the tastes below? Food and herbs with the following tastes could aggravate your symptoms.

DOSHAS

The Three Doshas / Body Types

Your body type shows how your strengths, as well as how your body typically goes out of balance. It also shows how your body responds to the environment. Your body type is comprised of certain qualities and affects every part of you - your physical and mental characteristics as well as your personal strengths and weaknesses. This is because your body type is based on how your body uses energy. Ayurveda has 3 body types (doshas), called Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Vata spends energy. Pitta burns energy. Kapha stores energy. Vata people tend to be easily stimulated, hyperactive, underweight and dry. Pitta people tend to be hot, focused, driven, and easily inflamed. Kapha people are heavy, stable and grounded, but if they store too much energy, they could gain weight easily and have congestion.
