PIttas especially need to go light on the cardamom - in small amounts it is pitta reducing, and in larger quantities like this can really spike pitta. For mothers in the unique window after birth, spices are also helpful to reignite agni and can be varied with even better results with any of the classic "Panchaloka" or 5 spices used for this purpose: Ginger, black pepper, pippali, pippali mool and chitrak. Use on oatmeal or cream of wheat or rice or other vata pacifying cereal. Even black pepper mixed without the sugar, into a little rice with ample ghee makes a simple but special mama's agni condiment. Avoid toast postpartum, transitioning after 10 days if desired to unleavened breads for best rejuvenative power.
