Joseph began cooking simple recipes as early as eight years old. His cooking became more vibrant and colorful through ten years studying the Bengali language and South Asian cuisine. In 2002, he traveled overseas in search of spiritual awakening. He lived and studied cooking in France, Morocco, and Bangladesh. French culture refined his appreciation. Middle eastern culture gave his recipes flare, passion and confidence.
Joseph returned home, "I wanted to revisit our own culture. Each region of our country offers a unique blessing to our cuisine. I came to love the sweetness of the mountains of Appalachia, the vitality of plants, and wild-crafted foods." Frank Cook, a botanist traveling the world living entirely by donation, taught him how to identify and gather wild medicinal herbs. "Finally, I studied Ayurveda, which integrated my passion for cooking, herbs, spirituality and South Asian culture. For me, Ayurveda was an incredible discovery."
Joseph graduated from Harvard University in 1996. He studied Ayurveda under Dr. Vasant Lad, a world renowned Ayurvedic expert who is director of the Ayurvedic Institute in Albuquerque, NM. He is available for cooking workshops, Ayurvedic consultations, or to share the joy of food.

"I love to cook warming, satisfying foods that bring people together. Delicate flavors and hearty ingredients open people up to a new awareness of how food makes life meaningful. Cooking also brings personal freedom and creativity.
A chef begins with a wish. Through meditation and contemplation the wish is purified. In this way, food becomes enjoyable and healthy for body, mind, and spirit. Every new recipe is a quest. Eating is the one activity that brings every being on the planet in touch with their health and desire every day.
Love and Light,
-Joseph"
