Massage Oils are an extremely beneficial therapeutically. Since your skin in the largest digestive organ of your body, topical application of oils (both infused with herbs and pure) is an excellent way to deliver therapeutic value.

The benefits of using massage oils include healthy skin, lubricated joints, pain relief, healthy muscles, calm nervous system, emotional stability and many more. Please refer to this article for a detailed description of Oil Massage.

There are many oils available here at Joyful Belly, from pure oils, to overall support oils, to those that address specific symptoms. To choose the best oil for your dosha or concern, see the abbreviated list below. Herbal Oils:

  • Vata Oil- for overall health of Vata constitutions.
  • Pitta Oil- for overall health of Pitta constitutions.
  • Kapha Oil-for overall health of Kapha constitutions.
  • Neem Oil- for itchy, rashy, oily Pitta and Kapha skin conditions.
  • Bhringaraj Oil- a calming oil that helps with sleep and hair growth. Generally recommended for Pitta.
  • Maharanayan Oil- an excellent oil for painful joints, muscles, or both. It's great!
  • Brahmi Oil- an oil for Pitta and to calm a stressed mind.
  • Ashwagandha Bala Oil- helps to rebuild muscle, and bring robustness back to the debilitated.

John Immel, the founder of Joyful Belly, teaches people how to have a healthy diet and lifestyle with Ayurveda biocharacteristics. His approach to Ayurveda is clinical, yet exudes an ease which many find enjoyable and insightful. John's creativity in the kitchen and delight in cooking for others comes from his family oriented upbringing. In addition to his certification in Ayurveda, John holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Harvard University.

John enjoys sharing Ayurveda within the context of his Catholic roots, and finds Ayurveda gives him an opportunity to participate in the healing mission of the Church. Jesus expressed God's love by feeding and healing the sick. That kindness is the fundamental ministry of Ayurveda as well. Outside of work, John enjoys spending time with his wife and 7 kids, and pursuing his love of theology, philosophy, and language.

How come it's directed to apply before shower vs. after showering? I always assumed oiling after a shower is more beneficial for hydration and absorption
