While the thyroid stimulates metabolism, the parathyroid is responsible for increasing calcium levels in the blood, and thus stimulation of activity, including digestion and muscle movements. The body uses calcitonin to oppose the parathyroid, inhibit digestion and absorption of calcium from the intestines.
MagnesiumUp to 75% of people in industrialized nations ingest less that the daily RDA. The body absorbs only 20-50% of ingested magnesium. Magnesium rich foods, supplements, and magnesium bath salts like epsom salts can increase magnesium levels. Magnesium rich foods include beans, nuts, cereal brans, whole grains and green leafy vegetables.
CalciumSesame, Kale, and dark leafy greens are rich in calcium. Calcium requires vitamin D, parathyroid hormone and healthy saturated fat in order to be utilized for strong bones, teeth and muscles.
