At the Joyful Belly School of Ayurveda, we are passionate about answering questions just like this. In fact, we are the only US-based school of Ayurveda who regularly publishes novel research. Explained clearly, practically and physiologically, our scientifically-tested information provides a robust resource for your clients and your own further education.
Trying to make supportive Ayurvedic changes for yourself and your family? Vague guidelines and standardized food lists can end up doing more harm than good. Instead, we are offering research-based information that you can easily understand. Our goal is to help you make more informed, healthy choices for the specific needs of you and yours.
From coffee, to avocado, to kombucha, over 94 complete studies are available on our website, completely free of charge. We currently produce over 75 Ayurvedic research studies per year in total, all of which are available to view free right here on our website.

Aggregate Biocharacteristics by Symptom
Alongside this, we also provide aggregate statistics on over 1,000 symptoms free to the Ayurvedic community (see example). These statistics allow practitioners to easily assess imbalanced biocharacteristics commonly present with a certain symptom.
Search for symptoms using the search on the upper right. Or, to find a symptom, click on a category below, scroll down to the subcategory, click on the symptom. Once you are on the symptom page, click on 'STATS'.

About the AuthorJohn Immel, the founder of Joyful Belly, teaches people how to have a healthy diet and lifestyle with Ayurveda. His approach to Ayurveda exudes a certain ease, which many find enjoyable and insightful. John also directs Joyful Belly's School of Ayurveda , which specializes in digestive tract pathology & Ayurvedic nutrition. John and his wife Natalie recently published Explore Your Hunger: A Guide to Hunger, Appetite & Food.
John's interest in Ayurveda and digestive tract pathology was inspired by a complex digestive disorder acquired from years of international travel, including his public service work in South Asia. John's commitment to the detailed study of digestive disorders reflects his zeal to get down to the roots of the problem. His hope and belief in the capacity of each & every client to improve their quality of life is nothing short of a personal passion. John's creativity in the kitchen and delight in cooking for others comes from his family oriented upbringing. In addition to his certification in Ayurveda, John holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Harvard University.
John enjoys sharing Ayurveda within the context of his Catholic roots, and finds Ayurveda gives him an opportunity to participate in the healing mission of the Church. Jesus expressed God's love by feeding and healing the sick. That kindness is the fundamental ministry of Ayurveda as well.
