Written by John Immel, The Key to a Longer LifeAyurveda identifies healthy lifestyle choices for your imbalanced body patterns. The word Ayurveda means "the study of life," or biology. So what makes us strong for long life? The truth makes us strong. Who can stand against the truth and hope to survive? But what is truth? Life is what is true. Truth is measured by the likeness to what is real (Summa Theologiae I-16-1 - 1274 AD). It makes sense that longevity comes from seeking what is truly real and truly alive. What is Truly Real & Alive?St. Thomas Aquinas defines life as "movement from within." (Summa Theologiae I-18-1 - 1274 AD)A rock is moved by something else. But a bird moves by flying. St. Thomas Aquinas defines life as "movement from within." (Summa Theologiae I-18-1 - 1274 AD) A rock is moved by something else. But a bird moves by flying. Birds are alive. Yet, a bird's life is limited to (and moved by) its instincts. Even greater life is found in humans who are not moved by instincts alone, but can choose freely. Yet the life of humans, and all created things, is limited to (and moved by) their nature. Even greater life is found by looking at the source of nature. Does dirt determine the nature of the universe, or does it obey the source of nature? Is the earth the source of nature, or does it merely obey nature? Is the sun the source of nature, or does it obey? Is the tiniest quantum particle the source of nature, or does it obey? Whatever this source of nature is, is what we everyone means when they say God. Longevity, then, comes from seeking God, the Creator & Sustainer. Tuning Your Heart to True LifeOnly the lover of life can penetrate the mystery of life. Loving the principle and source, the soul is prepared to receive knowledge of all of creation, and the harmony with nature that Ayurveda claims is real. This love for true life is also true happiness. READ MORE ON THIS TOPIC
