This category covers water and soup stock. Ayurveda favors broths, teas and juices over water for hydration because they contain nourishment and electrolytes. Proper hydration requires enough water and balanced electrolytes.

When sodium levels are depleted, a person tends to urinate excessively. Vata people are the most prone to electrolyte deficiencies. When sodium is in excess, a person tends to retain water. Kapha people tend to store excess electrolytes.
