When Pigs Fly - Preventing Swine Flu With Ayurveda

Sign in to review or comment
When pigs fly so does swine flu. Ayurveda treats exotic new diseases and ominous old ones alike: the old fashioned way. The approach is much like grandma's chicken soup. Take care of yourself first, swine flu second. Let your body fight the flu. If you are healthy, Ayurveda says, then let the pigs fly!

Treat Your Digestive Tract like a Baby.

Digestion is a huge energy drain taking 60% of daily metabolism. Some foods are harder to digest than others. The foods we feed to babies are generally easy to digest. Carrots, rice, applesauce and warm soups are all easy to digest. Beans, wheat, cheese, and red meat are difficult to digest. Which is better for immunity? Echinacea or reclaiming 60% of your metabolic power? Ayurveda says take the burden off your digestion tract when you are sick.

Heat Circulates the Blood

Good circulation builds immunity because your immune system is in your blood. Before doctors renamed it the flu great grandma called it a cold for a reason. Heat opens the vessels and cold constricts them. To avoid swine flu keep your blood vessels open. Wear plenty of layers and make your winters like the dog days of summer.

Confidence Boosts Immunity

Fear and stress cause disease. Just like cold they constrict the blood vessels. Stay informed but ignore the hype. Stay calm and confident.

If Your Kids Get Mucus Don't Feed Them Cheese.

Check for a tickle in your throat after eating dairy, sugar, wheat or red meat. These foods thicken the blood and cause mucus in Kapha bodies. Thick blood bogs circulation. Turmeric is a famous Ayurvedic blood thinner. Thick mucus is a breeding ground for disease. Use sitopaladi to help expectoration of unwanted mucus.

Keep Your Lungs Healthy

Swine flu attacks the lungs. Lungs love warm cozy couches, mild exercise, and good circulation. Deep breathing clears infections from the lungs. Inhale down the back into the kidneys and beyond. Exhale lifting the belly button up and back towards the spine. Take 10 deep breaths in the morning.

Spices and Herbs for the Lungs

Ginger & black pepper are cardiac stimulants. They improve circulation & warm the body. Drink warm tea in the mornings with ginger, black pepper, lemons and honey to liquefy mucus and clear the lungs. Trikatu, tulsi and chyavanprash are famous Ayurvedic formulas for improving lung energy. Use at the first sign of mucus or sore throat.

Fevers are from Toxicity

The symptoms of fever and toxicity are similar: body ache, debility, and cloudy mind. A famous Ayurvedic formula for fevers is mahasudarshan. Babying the digestive tract is a great way to cleanse the blood and give body the strength it needs to fight infection.
