Ancient texts can be difficult to penetrate and understand. This advanced course is a must for any clinician that wishes to understand disease from perspectives that predate modern western medicine. In this rigorous 12 month course you will study the 30 disease patterns, and their subtypes, that are essential to Ayurvedic diagnosis. They provide a foundation for the historical treatment of all disorders generally.
This course translates disease perspectives from the ancient Ayurveda texts into practical, usable. modern clinical tools for the modern clinician. Improve clinical outcomes for your clients as you master therapeutic strategies that predate modern medicine.
Ayurveda uniquely preserved the biocharacteristics medical model that was prevalent throughout Eurasia until the 1650s. Knowledge of these perspectives from ancient texts is an essential step in the training of a master health & wellness clinician and anyone seeking the full expression of natural healing methods.
This course takes an experiential approach, using intuitive, active learning methods. Every step of the way, this course will supplement ancient intuition with modern accuracy and advancements in phyto and bio-chemistry.
This course also features experiential exercises of major marma points, helping your grow in subtle body awareness.

Schedule & Format
This 12 month program is entirely online, and does not require any travel. Class starts in August and runs through the following August, with a 4 week summer break. Students should expect to spend 4-6 hours a week in study, on average.

The sanskrit module will give you a greater facility reading both ancient and modern textbooks. As classical texts were written in Sanskrit, and modern Ayurvedic authors frequently use sanskrit terms, this module is essential. It includes
Sanskrit medical vocabulary, and other common vocabulary
How to read transliterated Sanskrit
Common word formations, and what to expect regarding the joining of words and letters
Common prefixes, suffixes, and other basic tips that will make reading transliterated sanskrit much easier.
Marma Points & Body Awareness Exercises
Supplement your study of Classical Ayurveda texts with weekly body awareness exercises including all major marma points.
Clinical Skills & Competency
By graduation you will be able to:
Diagnose all 30 disease patterns and their subtypes from an Ayurvedic perspective
Accurately select classical remedies and formulations for each of the 30 disease patterns and their subtypes.
Understand and apply, in a clinical setting, the 13 types of pathogenesis (samprapti ghataka) unique to each condition, including identification of Dosha, Agni, Ama, Dhatu, Srotas, Sroto Dushti, as well as:
Udbhava sthana - site of origin of each disease
Sanchara Sthana - places where Doshas / disease spreads
Vyakta sthana - places where symptoms appear
Dosha gati - movement of Doshas
Roga Marga - site of pathogenesis
Roga Avastha - stage of disease manifestation
Sadhya Asadhyata - prognosis
Read modern and classical texts that include transliterated sanskrit
Use knowledge of marma points therapeutically
Begin your study of Panchakarma Cleansing Therapies

Prerequisites for Enrollment
Students entering this course should already have a working knowledge of Ayurveda's general medical models, as well as a basic modern understanding of disease (See the Ayurvedic Health Counselor and Ayurvedic herbalist courses at Joyful Belly).
This advanced course is also available to students who are already trained in the basic biocharacteristic medical models of Chinese or Greek Medicine (herbal energetics).
Other health & wellness professionals who are already familiar with Ayurveda's basic medical model (dosha, guna, taste, elements, dhatu, srotamsi, etc).
