AYURVEDIC PERSPECTIVE ON ANTIPLATELET

An herb that inhibits clotting, dissolves clots, thins the blood, or destroys platelets, therefore reducing the tendency of blood to form clots. They are useful in cardiovascular disease, clots, and stroke. Aka anticoagulant.

Many anticoagulant herbs are also anti-proliferative - they prevent angiogenesis. This is useful in COPD. For this reason, anticoagulants were called antiplastics.

Blood cells release platelet-activating factor (PAF) which serves to active platelets and create an inflammatory and immune response. Pollutants, smoking and some diseases can increase the amount of PAF released. Many of the herbs on this list are PAF inhibitors - including Apiaceae plants with coumarins, bromelian, etc.

Herb Drug Interaction Risk

Avoid if taking blood thinners.
