I've been told bananas are a 'sour' and therefore not suitable for pitta. Is this true?
My Dosha is Kapha so why is there a banana smoothie on my edible list... Then you go into recipe and find the banana isn't suitable for Kapha.... I am confused ....
Sue and all: Banana may not be on your list of foods, but the recipes combine herbs and foods (like banana) so they will balance each other out. When you think in those terms it is much less confusing!

Mmm banananas! This vata/pitta loves them. I like to take a banana with a half teaspoon ground cardamom seed and a half tablespoon of ghee after morning rooibos or chamomile masala, abhyaga, nasya, and karna purana. Rubbing the inside of the peel on the face is nice too -cooling, moisturizing. How nice it is to have banana on the skin while ingesting it (by mushing and eating with the hands). After having the nana cardamom ghee blend it's good to obstain from eating or drinking for an hour for optimal digestion and to relieve any constipation. Much love to bananas and all the other Ayurveda monkeys out there. P.s. the peel is edible too -but I don't know the Ayurvedic takeon this concept. It tastes nice as a paste in kitchari I think... I'd love feedback on this idea. &&& the peel's inside can be rubbed on the teeth and left for 10 minutes for whitening. Xo
Are cooked bananas vata friendly?
Bake bananas and grapefruit in the oven spiced with ginger cinnamon and cardamom with some tahini on top
On Lad's list bananas are on the avoid list for pitta dosha. My pitta is aggravated at the moment so I have been avoiding it but now I see your take on bananas. Confusing.
You will no doubt find differing opinions about things from different Ayurvedic Practitioners. We believe that you are the best person to decide if bananas will aggravate your Pitta. Try eating a banana and take note of how you feel - warmer versus cooler, any digestive discomfort like gas, heartburn, any sensations in your body like a headache or increased heart rate. Most Ayurvedic Practitioners will agree that developing the power of self observation is essential.
So I've heard that fruit which is picked from the tree before ripening contains a lot of antibodies. Since bananas seem to almost universally be picked green for shipping, would cooking them help to neutralize said antibodies?
