Eggplant is pungent, astringent and heating. It encourages agni and detoxifies the colon. It is high in oxalic acid, which causes the formation of calcium oxalate crystals so it should not be eaten by those with kidney or gallstone problems. It is considered not as nutritional as other vegetables because it is somewhat toxic to the system and for that reason should not be eaten more than once a week.
