Kindly illustrate all Ayurvedic Properties ( like Rasa, Veerya, Vipaak etc.) of oats / oatmeal.
Oats have a sweet rasa, a cooling virya and a sweet vipak. Cooked oats are heavy and gooey whereas dry oats are dry and rough.
Hi ,can you please tell me if i put ripped banan for sweetnes in cooked oatmeal is it a good combination or not ?
Generally speaking, it is best to eat fruits alone.
What about if we cook the banana along with oats? Is that okay? Thanks
Ideally fresh fruits are eaten alone rather than mixed with other food. Dried fruits like raisins would be better to cook with your oats.
are oats/oatmeal alkaline or acidic?
Oats would generally be considered more on the acidic side.
How do you know when you have too much oats for your current Vata or AMA imbalances
Oats are generally pacifying to Vata, so they generally support healing from a Vata imbalance. Because oats are generally easy to digest, they usually do not contribute to ama formation.
Thank you.
My teacher has told us countless times that oats are drying for vata, even cooked, because they take water from the colon to help with elimination (which gives the illusion that they're helping), in turn causing dryness in the colon. I find it quite confusing though when everywhere else says oats are fine cooked. Any thoughts?
We generally recommend Vata types enjoy oats with ghee and warming spices. We have found them to be Vata pacifying in our clinic. What is your experience when you eat oats? Do you find them drying?
I tend to have diarrhea after oatmeal. But find it very soothing. I'm vata. Any thought?
This could indicate a sensitivity or allergy to oats, where the body is trying to clear it from the system quickly. It might be helpful to have an allergy test or experiment with an elimination diet with oats. It's always best to work with a practitioner for specific symptoms.
I am a vata. This recipe sits heavy in my stomach and won't digest. I seem to have a problem digesting oatmeal.
