AYURVEDIC HERB SUPPLEMENTS

Abdominal Massage

This daily practice refreshes and clears stagnation in digestive organs by directly moving food, improving circulation, and improving awareness.

How Does This Ayurvedic Home Remedy Improve Wellness?

CONSTITUTIONAL MEDICINE INSIGHTS

Abdominal massage awakens digestion, clears stagnation, and jumpstarts elimination for the day ahead. Each gentle stroke helps move yesterday's food along the digestive tract, preventing fermentation and bloating.

Abdominal massage is a practical, hands-on way to support your digestive system each morning. This simple morning ritual reduces gas, supports healthy metabolism, and tones the intestines, laying the foundation for vibrant energy and mental clarity. Try it daily before rising to restore harmony and flow to your gut.

When food sits too long in the gut, it begins to ferment, creating gas, bloating, and sluggish bowels. Gentle massage of the abdomen helps move food through the intestines. It also stimulates circulation to the digestive organs, refreshing and toning them.

For best results, perform this massage while lying down, just after waking, before eating or drinking. Use light, clockwise strokes.

Over time, this simple act can help retrain sluggish bowels, reduce abdominal tension, and bring greater rhythm and ease to your entire digestive process.

Medicinal Effects of Abdominal Massage

Constitutional nutrition systems use biocharacteristics to classify the metabolic nature of food, hebs, lifestyle choices, your body, and disease.

METABOLIC NATURE / BIOCHARACTERISTICS

Metabolic Nature / Biocharacteristics

Ayurveda assesses metabolic imbalances through 20 main biocharacteristics (vital qualtiies). Aggravating them weakens your body and causes imbalance. By knowing which biocharacteristics are habitually imbalanced in your body, you will be able to identify and correct metabolic imbalances before you get sick. Every biocharacteristic has an opposite which balances it (i.e. hot balances cold). You restore balance by favoring diet and lifestyle choices that increase the opposite biocharacteristic.

AYURVEDA BODY TYPES (DOSHAS)

The Three Doshas / Body Types

Ayurveda is a metabolic theory of medicine that explains individual health, tendencies, and disease patterns through the concept of doshas, which can be understood as your metabolic patterns and tendencies.

Each dosha reflects a distinct metabolic nature and describes strengths & weaknesses in bodily function, and how these affect energy levels, digestion, susceptibility to disease, and many other tendencies.

Your metabolic nature not only affects your physical characteristics, but also influences your mental thought patterns, confidence, and enthusiasm.

Ayurveda balances these metabolic strengths & weaknesses to support your body's vitality and prevent recurrent disease cycles. This support is a critical aid, especially in chronic or incurable disease conditions.

The 3 metabolic body types (doshas), are Catabolic (Vata), Metabolic (Pitta), and Anabolic (Kapha).

Through dosha, Ayurveda empowers people to identify metabolic imbalances early, break repetitive patterns of disease, and cultivate habits that support long-term vitality and well-being.

Ultimately, these metabolic patterns also provide a framework for understanding yourself, including body, mind, and spiritual tendencies.

Guidelines - When & How Much

Once daily, preferably in the morning before getting out of bed or before your first meal.

  1. Lie on your back in bed or on a flat, soft surface. Bend your knees slightly or place a pillow under them to relax your abdominal muscles.
  2. Rub your hands together to generate warmth. You may apply a few drops of warm oil, such as sesame or castor oil, to your palms for added benefit.
  3. Start by gently placing your hands on your lower right abdomen (near the right hip bone). Using soft, circular strokes, move upward along the right side of your abdomen, across the upper belly, and then down the left side—following the path of the colon.
  4. Always massage in a clockwise direction, which supports the natural movement of the digestive tract. Repeat this circular pattern 5-10 times, gradually increasing pressure as tolerated.
  5. Breathe into the belly as you massage, allowing your breath to enhance relaxation and movement in the abdomen.
  6. If you notice areas of tightness, bloating, or tenderness, spend a little more time there using small circular or gentle kneading motions.
  7. Keep the massage slow and steady, aiming for about 5-10 minutes total.
  8. Rest for a few minutes after the massage, or follow with warm water or herbal tea to further encourage elimination.

CONTRAINDICATED FOR
THESE SYMPTOMS

Abdominal Massage may be harmful or contraindicated for these symptoms. Note this is not a complete list of all possible contraindications. Please see your doctor before using this herb supplement to treat a medical condition.

While abdominal massage is generally safe for most people, there are times when it should be avoided or performed with caution.

Avoid massaging organs after eating, or if you experience pain.

Pregnancy (especially early stages): Avoid abdominal massage during pregnancy unless performed by a trained professional who specializes in prenatal care.

Recent abdominal surgery: Wait at least 6-8 weeks or until fully healed before performing abdominal massage. Scar tissue and healing tissues can be disrupted.

Hernias: Abdominal massage may worsen hernias or cause discomfort; avoid massaging directly over the area.

Severe gastrointestinal disorders: Conditions like Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis (during flare-ups), or bowel obstructions can be aggravated by pressure on the abdomen.

Abdominal infection or inflammation: Avoid massage if you have a fever, appendicitis, diverticulitis, or any known abdominal infection.

Cancer in the abdominal area: Avoid unless under the guidance of a healthcare provider, as massage can influence lymphatic and blood flow.
