What is Bile?Bile is the substance produced by your liver that is responsible for helping fat digestion. Though produced by your liver, bile is stored in a pear-shaped pouch that is your gallbladder. Bile gets a bad name for its foul taste when you vomit, but maintaining correct bile chemistry is crucial to your health. Altered bile chemistry can lead to thickening of the bile and formation of stones.
Since bile is responsible for the breakdown of fats, it is the main pathway for cholesterol metabolism. Eighty percent of all gallstones are cholesterol stones, formed when the bile has excess cholesterol or low concentration of bile salts. In addition to high cholesterol in general, unwanted excess cholesterol in the bile has also been linked to hypothyroid, weight gain, low metabolism and high cholesterol in general. A fat-rich diet leads to a fatty, congested liver, which, according to Ayurveda, predisposes one to a Kapha-Pitta conditions like gallstones. Low metabolism can lead to a sluggish gallbladder that fails to empty properly, increasing the likelihood that stones will form.
Liver Congestion & BitternessSpring is the most challenging season for liver and gallbladder congestion. While you're preparing the garden and freshening up the house your body is doing some spring-cleaning of its own by shedding winter fat that it will no longer need in the coming warmer months. A congested liver, stagnant gallbladder or thick bile has an emotional effect as well. It can cause a buildup of emotions that can make a person feel like they're ready to pop. The gallbladder is associated with envy, bitterness, contempt, and irritability. When Kapha alone afflicts the gall bladder a person may feel timid and under confident. Releasing the gallbladder can release these negative emotions and increase confidence and courage.
Visually, gallbladder stagnation appears as a slightly dark or greenish hue around the eye in a Kapha Pitta constitution. Low grade liver toxicity and gall bladder stagnation may be experienced as a mild discomfort under the right ribcage.

Product Reviews for Gallbladder Tonic
(3.67 out of 5 stars) 3 reviews
Yes, the herbs in this formula were chosen to assist the body with the functions that your gall bladder used to perform. If your gall bladder has been removed, supporting your body becomes all the more important.
Can thick bile or gallstones cause low stomach acid/gastroparesis? Or does adrenal exhaustion cause low stomach acid/gastroparesis? Trying to figure out what's causing my conditions as I am a slow oxidizer thru hair mineral analysis, and a Vata-Kapha.
Are tonics cleansers?
Tonics are loosely used to describe formulas that improve function, in this case gall bladder function. In eastern medicine, tonics are often used for building strength (for example, with eggs or red meat).
Which formula or tonic would be better to flush out small Gall Stones? Very sensitive to Aloe Vera juice (Pitta/Vata).
I just realized this says to use aloe vera juice. I don't have any and was wondering if I could mix it with hot water or something of the sort. Thanks!
Yes, hot water would work fine. Thanks!
Hi Mary, thanks for your question. I often recommend an altered vata pacifying diet and routine when dealing with two doshas that are out of balance. That said, it's very difficult to recommend a formula without knowing your specific health history and imbalances. You may consider scheduling a consultation so we can create a custom formula for you- for instance, the gall bladder cleanse with additional herbs to calm vata. Hope that helps!
The individual herbs are listed where it says, "contains:" above. Do you have any other questions?
I have been struggling with digestion, pain, weakness, and mental fatigue ever since I had pancreatitis and gall bladder removal almost 8 years ago. I really need help. I have GERD, bouts of dizziness and diarrhea after certain meals and lately have been very bloated and having to burp and pass gas constantly. It's painful. Can you recommend an Ayurvedic practitioner in my area or can I do a telephone consultation with someone? I really need help. Nicole from Oakland, CA
