TRIPHALA HERBAL POWDER (AYURVEDIC FORMULA )Cleansing bowel tonic. Refreshes your body as it gently detoxes. |
How Can This Ayurvedic Product Make You Feel Great?
AYURVEDIC ANALYSISTriphala is recommended and used more than any other Ayurvedic herbal formulation. Popular for its unique ability to gently cleanse and detoxify the system while simultaneously replenishing and nourishing it, this traditional formula supports the proper functions of the digestive, circulatory, respiratory and genitourinary systems. Translated as "three fruits", it is composed of the dried fruits of amalaki, bibhitaki and haritaki. Containing five of the six tastes (all but salty), Triphala readily removes excess Vata, Pitta and Kapha from the body, bringing balance and proper functioning to the system. It is commonly taken as a daily supplement to help maintain balance of the doshas.
Since triphala is very astringent, it initially makes your mouth dry. The effect is temporary however. Shortly thereafter, it provokes release of saliva. Finally, triphala tastes sweet. To minimize dryness in the mouth, brew as a tea then strain. Or, mix with a bit of honey. - Assists natural internal cleansing
- Gently maintains regularity
- Nourishes and rejuvenates the tissues
- Relieves constipation
- Supports healthy digestion and absorption
- Natural antioxidant
Contraindications:Pregnancy, diarrhea SUGGESTED USE1/4-1/2tsp in warm water before brushing teeth at night or as directed by your practitioner.

AYURVEDIC MEDICINAL BIOCHARACTERISTICS
What is the biocharacteristic theory of medicine?
INCREASES
Increases These Biocharacteristics (Gunas)
Functional Ayurveda helps you assess imbalances through 20 main biocharacteristics
(gunas).
Aggravating these characteristics weakens your body and causes imbalance.
By knowing which characteristics are habitually imbalanced in your body, you will be able to identify and correct imbalances before you get sick.
Every characteristic has an opposite which balances it (i.e. hot balances cold).
You restore balance by favoring diet and lifestyle choices that increase the opposite characteristic.

| CLEAR ABOUT CLEAR BIOCHARACTERISTIC
Clear refers to anything that cleanses or flushes out wastes, or that digests ama.
LEARN MORE ABOUT CLEAR DRY ABOUT DRY BIOCHARACTERISTIC
Dry is identified by lack of moisture, lack of fat, or anything that causes diuresis.
LEARN MORE ABOUT DRY | TASTES
The 6 Tastes
Taste is used to sense the most basic properties and effects of food.
Each taste has a specific medicinal effect on your body.
Cravings for food with certain tastes indicate your body is craving specific medicinal results from food.
Taste is experienced on the tongue and represents your body's reaction to foods.
Sweet taste causes physical satisfaction and attraction whereas bitter taste causes discomfort and aversion.
Kapha should use less sweet taste while Vata and Pitta would benefit from using more sweet taste.
One of the first signs of illness is that your taste and appetite for food changes.
The six tastes are sweet, sour, salty, pungent, bitter, and astringent.
Do you crave foods with any of the tastes below?

| ASTRINGENT ABOUT ASTRINGENT BIOCHARACTERISTIC
Astringency is characterized by constriction, drawing together, or drying.
LEARN MORE ABOUT ASTRINGENT | DOSHAS
The Three Doshas / Body Types
According to the biocharacteristic theory of medicine,
people tend to get sick, over and over again, due to habitual causes and imbalances that are unique to the person.
Your body type summarizes this tendency, showing you the 'type' of conditions and imbalances that frequently challenge your health & wellness.
Using body type, you can also identify remedies likely to improve your strength and resiliency.
Your body type identifies physical and mental characteristics as well as your personal strengths and weaknesses.
The calculation of your body type is based on your medical history.
The 3 functional body types
(doshas),
are Catabolic (Vata), Metabolic (Pitta), and Anabolic (Kapha).
Catabolic individuals tend to break down body mass into energy.
Metabolic individuals tend to burn or use energy.
Anabolic individuals tend to store energy as body mass.
Catabolic people tend to be easily stimulated, hyperactive, underweight and dry.
Metabolic people tend to be rosy-cheeked, easily irritated, focused, driven, and easily inflamed.
Anabolic people are heavy, stable and grounded, but if they store too much energy, they could gain weight easily and have congestion.

Does anyone know about the safety of anything for detox while nursing? I haven't been able to do a whole body cleanse for 2 1/2 years (2 babies since then...) and I my thoughts are that this would be safe but would love to hear from someone. This looks like exactly what I need.

Turmeric, triphala, trikatu, and ginger are all herbs used for gentle detox postpartum available for purchase on joyfulbelly. Turmeric is especially used to purify breastmilk.

Triphala is a diuretic and can be drying for some Vata constitutions, or even wake you up at night to pee. If that's happening, try haritaki alone...
Where are your products grown and processed? Can we be sure they don't contain heavy metals?
- Tami, Conway, AL , 07-02-13 ( Reply)
Our products come from the top vendors in the country so we can assure our customers of purity.
This is pure organic triphala. Thanks!
Works wonderful and saved my from going to hospital! Many times over would recommend to anyone with digestive troubles so gentle and relieves abdominal pain! Hare Krsna!HariBol!
Thanks for your stellar recommendation of Triphala, Naddina! While Triphala is a wonderful remedy for digestive troubles, each case is different in symptoms and severity. We recommend a consultation with a practitioner to find the right herb for each unique client. So glad it worked for you!

Great question, Kristina! It means don't take Triphala if you are pregnant. Other types of laxatives are much better for constipation during pregnancy.

Is there a way to combat the insomnia that triphala brings on?
- claudia, San jose, CA , 02-02-15 ( Reply)
You may soak triphala in water overnight and drink it in the morning to avoid insomnia. Or simply drink hot milk with ghee before bedtime.

Regarding your company's "assurance" on product source and purity, can you provide specific details and documentation? Thank you, respectfully.
Joyful Belly uses organic herbs wherever possible. Organic herbs are labelled organic on Joyful Belly, so that you always know the quality of the product you are buying. We use an advanced inventory supply system to ensure minimal inventory storage and maximum freshness of all our products. From our suppliers:Your health and well-being are our highest priority, and everything we do is managed with that in mind. We employ leading experts in the field of Ayurveda, and we have partnered with reputable laboratories here in the U.S. to ensure the purity and safety of our herbs. We have an extensive system for maintaining the highest possible standards for quality control of our herbs.Testing for botanicals is classified into the following four categories: Microbiologicals, Heavy Metals, Pesticides, and Identification. All of our herbs and tablets are tested multiple times at third party labs. Our labs use all appropriate testing methods, with criteria and methods of analysis determined by the following third-party organizations and protocols:BAM (Bacteriological Analytical Manual) is the FDA's preferred laboratory procedure for microbiological analyses of foods and cosmetics. These are a collection of procedures used for the detection of bacteria, viruses, parasites, yeast, mold, and microbial toxins. AOAC (Official Methods of Analysis) International evaluates chemistry, microbiology, and molecular biology methods of analysis.USP (simply USP) is an organization that sets standards for public health and related programs to help ensure the quality, safety, and benefit of medicines, supplements, and foods.AHPA (American Herbal Products Association) is a national trade association and voice for the herbal industry. The microbial standards are in conformity with (and exceed) those specified by the AHPA.Our herbs and products are tested for arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury using independent U.S. laboratories. The acceptable limits for daily intake are as follows:Arsenic content shall not exceed 0.01 milligrams per daily dose (10 micrograms per day)Cadmium content shall not exceed 0.006 mg/d (6 micrograms per day)Lead content shall not exceed 0.02 mg/d (20 micrograms per day)Mercury content shall not exceed 0.002 mg/d (2 micrograms per day)All of our products are within the safety guidelines stipulated by the American National Standards Institute/National Sanitation Foundation International Dietary Supplement Standard 173 (ANSI 173).For an herb to be certified organic, its entire production must be free from the use of pesticides, sewage sludge, ionizing radiation, and genetic engineering (GMOs). We do spot testing for pesticides in third-party labs to ensure the integrity of the organic certification of our partner farms. The National Organics Program (NOP), is a regulatory program housed within the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service and is the gold standard in the United States for certified organic materials. A product is considered certified organic only after having been validated by an accredited certifying agency. All of our organic herbs and products are USDA certified organic.
Now that's what I'm talkin about! 3rd party testing is a real deal breaker for me. Thank you, I will be ordering from *Joyfulbelly from now on.
