Ayurveda Lifestyle Triphala

Balancing formula for detoxification & rejuvenation

  • Assists natural internal cleansing*
  • Gently maintains regularity*
  • Nourishes and rejuvenates the tissues*
  • Relieves constipation*
  • Supports healthy digestion and absorption*
  • Natural antioxidant*

Ayurvedic Energetics:

  • Rasa (taste): sweet, sour, pungent, bitter, astringent
  • Virya (action): neutral
  • Vipaka (post-digestive effect): sweet
  • Doshas (constitutions): Balancing for all doshas

Traditional Uses:
Use daily for rejuvenation and detoxification. Also used to support healthy elimination, digestion, weight management, lungs, urinary tract, constipation relief, and a clear complexion.*

Contraindications:
Pregnancy, diarrhea

Suggested Use:
1/4-1/2 tsp or as directed by your practitioner. Since triphala is very astringent, it initially makes your mouth dry. The effect is temporary however. Shortly thereafter, it provokes release of saliva. Finally, triphala tastes sweet. To minimize dryness in the mouth, brew as a tea then strain. Or, mix with a bit of honey.

Commentary:
Triphala is recommended and used more than any other Ayurvedic herbal formulation. Popular for its unique ability to gently cleanse and detoxify the system while simultaneously replenishing and nourishing it, this traditional formula supports the proper functions of the digestive, circulatory, respiratory and genitourinary systems. Translated as "three fruits", it is composed of the dried fruits of amalaki, bibhitaki and haritaki. Containing five of the six tastes (all but salty), Triphala readily removes excess Vata, Pitta and Kapha from the body, bringing balance and proper functioning to the system. It is commonly taken as a daily supplement to help maintain balance of the doshas.*

4oz is approximately one month's supply.

MEDICINAL QUALITIES

INCREASES
Digestive Effects Help

Increases These Qualities (Gunas)

Ayurveda helps you assess how you feel through the 20 main therapeutic feelings or qualities called gunas. Through the gunas you can articulate, experience and develop sensitivity to the signals your body sends you. Imbalanced gunas are the root of your imbalances. Every guna has an opposite which balances is (i.e. hot balances cold). You create balance by favoring diet and lifestyle choices that increase the opposite guna.

TASTES
Digestive Effects Help

The 6 Tastes

Taste has meaning in Ayurveda, and brings physical and emotional changes to your body. Taste is experienced on the tongue and is your body's reaction to foods much in the same way that your emotions are mental reactions to experiences. Sweet taste causes physical satisfaction and attraction whereas bitter taste causes discomfort and aversion. Kapha should use less sweet taste while Vata and Pitta would benefit from using more sweet taste. One of the first signs of illness is that your taste and appetite for food changes. The six tastes are sweet, sour, salty, pungent, bitter, and astringent. Do you crave foods with any of the tastes below? Food and herbs with the following tastes could aggravate your symptoms.

DOSHAS
Digestive Effects Help

The Three Doshas / Body Types

Your body type shows how your strengths, as well as how your body typically goes out of balance. It also shows how your body responds to the environment. Your body type is comprised of certain qualities and affects every part of you - your physical and mental characteristics as well as your personal strengths and weaknesses. This is because your body type is based on how your body uses energy. Ayurveda has 3 body types (doshas), called Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Vata spends energy. Pitta burns energy. Kapha stores energy. Vata people tend to be easily stimulated, hyperactive, underweight and dry. Pitta people tend to be hot, focused, driven, and easily inflamed. Kapha people are heavy, stable and grounded, but if they store too much energy, they could gain weight easily and have congestion.

Does anyone know about the safety of anything for detox while nursing? I haven't been able to do a whole body cleanse for 2 1/2 years (2 babies since then...) and I my thoughts are that this would be safe but would love to hear from someone. This looks like exactly what I need.

- Julianne, Sauquoit, NY, 08-19-10 (Reply)
Turmeric, triphala, trikatu, and ginger are all herbs used for gentle detox postpartum available for purchase on joyfulbelly. Turmeric is especially used to purify breastmilk. I don't understand why there is a slash through Vata for Triphala as my practitioner prescribes it to me for constipation and regularity. Is she wrong???

- layna carlson, Issaquah, WA, 02-27-13 (Reply)
Triphala is a diuretic and can be drying for some Vata constitutions, or even wake you up at night to pee. If that's happening, try haritaki alone...

Where are your products grown and processed? Can we be sure they don't contain heavy metals?

- Tami, Conway, AL, 07-02-13 (Reply)
Our products come from the top vendors in the country so we can assure our customers of purity.

Can you tell me if this formula contains other ingredients besides the powdered 3 fruits ? I noticed that the triphala guggulu formula contains additional ingredients. Thank you!

- jade, Paris, 10-02-13 (Reply)
This is pure organic triphala. Thanks!

Can anyone tell me why triphala causes me insomnia? I get really dry and how I might be able to benefit from it without it upsetting my sleep.

- Brian, CA, 04-18-14 (Reply)
Works wonderful and saved my from going to hospital! Many times over would recommend to anyone with digestive troubles so gentle and relieves abdominal pain! Hare Krsna!HariBol!

- Naddina, Arden, NC, 10-02-14 (Reply)
Thanks for your stellar recommendation of Triphala, Naddina! While Triphala is a wonderful remedy for digestive troubles, each case is different in symptoms and severity. We recommend a consultation with a practitioner to find the right herb for each unique client. So glad it worked for you!

Why does it say pregnancy? Does this help you get pregnant or does it mean dont take if you are pregnant?

- kristina, TN, 01-01-15 (Reply)
Great question, Kristina! It means don't take Triphala if you are pregnant. Other types of laxatives are much better for constipation during pregnancy.

Is there a way to combat the insomnia that triphala brings on?

- claudia, San jose, CA, 02-02-15 (Reply)
You may soak triphala in water overnight and drink it in the morning to avoid insomnia. Or simply drink hot milk with ghee before bedtime.
