How Does This Ayurvedic Herb Supplement Improve Wellness?

CLINICAL AYURVEDIC REVIEW

Vidari is a tridoshic herb that moisturizes Vata, cools Pitta, and lightens Kapha. It's demulcent sweetness nurtures those who feel frail, including seniors and anyone with a Vata constitution. Vidari promotes healthy aging. It is also a muscle tonic.

However, Vidari reduces cholesterol, blood lipids, and blood sugar qualities that are desirable for Kapha diabetics. Although it has been used anecdotally for weight gain, recent research suggests it prevents obesity and can actually reduce weight.

Vidari's expectorant action works by constricting airways. Glycosides constrict bronchial tubes which encourages coughing. It is also vasoconstricting, which may be due in part to the oxytocic effect of Vidari.

A Tribal Herb

Vidari's oxytocic effect can actually making you more affectionate to those you love, but hostile towards those outside your inner circle. As an aphrodisiac, Vidari increases fertility, building semen in men and supporting healthy menstruation in women. Its oxytocic properties also promotes healthy lactation in women (galactagogue).

Ayurveda assesses metabolic imbalances through 20 main biocharacteristics (gunas). Aggravating them weakens your body and causes imbalance. Every biocharacteristic has an opposite which balances it (i.e. hot balances cold). You restore balance by favoring diet and lifestyle choices that increase the opposite biocharacteristic.

TASTES

The 6 Tastes

Taste is used to sense the most basic properties and effects of food. Each taste has a specific medicinal effect on your body. Cravings for food with certain tastes indicate your body is craving specific medicinal results from food. Taste is experienced on the tongue and represents your body's reaction to foods. Sweet taste causes physical satisfaction and attraction whereas bitter taste causes discomfort and aversion. Kapha should use less sweet taste while Vata and Pitta would benefit from using more sweet taste. One of the first signs of illness is that your taste and appetite for food changes. The Three Doshas / Body Types
