Table of ContentsHow Does This Ayurvedic Herb Supplement Improve Wellness?CLINICAL AYURVEDIC REVIEWChyavanprash may be compared to a spicy version of elderberry syrup in western herbalism. It is traditionally used for colds, flus, asthma, allergies, chest congestion, cough, fatigue, general debility.
Amalaki is a rich source of antioxidants. It is an excellent rejuvenative (rasayana) that nourishes and strengthens the body, providing energy and vitality. To the above are added spicy and aromatic ingredients. The spices and aromatic ingredients in chyawanprash improve circulation, dilate blood vessels, improve digestion, and tonify the nerves. Altogether, the formula is sweet, sour, and spicy with a hint of astringency. Chyvanprash is frequently given to children. In a small daily dose (1 or 2 teaspoons), it makes for a tasty and very healthful treat. Chyvanprash also includes strengthening herbs like gokshura and ashwagandha. Finally, it contains cleansing ingredients like triphala and punarnava. Triphala is a laxative. Punarnava is a diuretic and also strengthens the heart. Effect on DoshasAlthough it may be used in all body types. It is ideal for low immunity in cold, weak, underweight Vata individuals. The spices and sourness may aggravate Pitta. While the sweetness can aggravate Kapha.ContraindicationsAs the sweet ingredients aggravate dampness, avoid in high kapha and thick coating on the tongue. Chyavanprash may be too heating during hot weather. Avoid in diarrhea. Do not use when taking blood thinners or antiplatelet medicines.Full list of IngredientsJaggery (unrefined cane sugar), Honey, Ghee, Amalaki, Cardamom seed, Ashwagandha root, Pippali, Vasaka (Malabar Nut Tree leaf), Haritaki (Chebulic Myrobalan), Punarnava (Boerhavia root), Kantakari, Gokshura (Tribulus fruit), Vidari Kanda, Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), Galanga root, Shatavari root, Musta (Cyperus rotundas), Bilva. It is also spelled Chyvanprash, Chyawanprash, and Chywanprash. Ayurveda assesses metabolic imbalances through 20 main biocharacteristics
(gunas).
Aggravating them weakens your body and causes imbalance.
By knowing which biocharacteristics are habitually imbalanced in your body, you will be able to identify and correct metabolic imbalances before you get sick.
Every biocharacteristic has an opposite which balances it (i.e. hot balances cold).
You restore balance by favoring diet and lifestyle choices that increase the opposite biocharacteristic.

Taste is used to sense the most basic properties and effects of food.
Each taste has a specific medicinal effect on your body.
Cravings for food with certain tastes indicate your body is craving specific medicinal results from food.
Taste is experienced on the tongue and represents your body's reaction to foods.
Sweet taste causes physical satisfaction and attraction whereas bitter taste causes discomfort and aversion.
Kapha should use less sweet taste while Vata and Pitta would benefit from using more sweet taste.
One of the first signs of illness is that your taste and appetite for food changes.
The six tastes are sweet, sour, salty, pungent, bitter, and astringent.

Ayurveda is a metabolic theory of medicine that explains individual health, tendencies, and disease patterns through the concept of doshas, which can be understood as your metabolic patterns and tendencies.
Each dosha reflects a distinct metabolic nature and describes strengths & weaknesses in bodily function, and how these affect energy levels, digestion, susceptibility to disease, and many other tendencies. Your metabolic nature not only affects your physical characteristics, but also influences your mental thought patterns, confidence, and enthusiasm. Ayurveda balances these metabolic strengths & weaknesses to support your body's vitality and prevent recurrent disease cycles. This support is a critical aid, especially in chronic or incurable disease conditions. The 3 metabolic body types (doshas), are Catabolic (Vata), Metabolic (Pitta), and Anabolic (Kapha). Through dosha, Ayurveda empowers people to identify metabolic imbalances early, break repetitive patterns of disease, and cultivate habits that support long-term vitality and well-being. Ultimately, these metabolic patterns also provide a framework for understanding yourself, including body, mind, and spiritual tendencies. GREEK MEDICINE / TEMPERAMENTSThe Four Temperaments / Humors

Very potent. Can only tolerate 1/4 tsp.
Can this be used in conjunction with Healthy Vata?
We generally say take no more than two herb formulas at a time, and space them out (i.e. taking one in the morning and evening, and the other before lunch and dinner). Consult with your Ayurvedic practitioner to see if this will work for you.
It's hard to give advice for specific individuals such as your 2 year old without more information. Generally, herbs are not recommended for children that young, but this could be appropriate for your son depending on his condition. It's best to work with a practitioner when using herbs.
