Guna Help

Increases These Biocharacteristics (Gunas)

Functional Ayurveda helps you assess imbalances through 20 main biocharacteristics (gunas). Aggravating these characteristics weakens your body and causes imbalance. By knowing which characteristics are habitually imbalanced in your body, you will be able to identify and correct imbalances before you get sick. Every characteristic has an opposite which balances it (i.e. hot balances cold). You restore balance by favoring diet and lifestyle choices that increase the opposite characteristic.

TASTES
Taste Help

The 6 Tastes

Taste is used to sense the most basic properties and effects of food. Each taste has a specific medicinal effect on your body. Cravings for food with certain tastes indicate your body is craving specific medicinal results from food. Taste is experienced on the tongue and represents your body's reaction to foods. Sweet taste causes physical satisfaction and attraction whereas bitter taste causes discomfort and aversion. Kapha should use less sweet taste while Vata and Pitta would benefit from using more sweet taste. One of the first signs of illness is that your taste and appetite for food changes. The six tastes are sweet, sour, salty, pungent, bitter, and astringent. Do you crave foods with any of the tastes below?

DOSHAS
Dosha Help

The Three Doshas / Body Types

According to the biocharacteristic theory of medicine, people tend to get sick, over and over again, due to habitual causes and imbalances that are unique to the person. Your body type summarizes this tendency, showing you the 'type' of conditions and imbalances that frequently challenge your health & wellness. Using body type, you can also identify remedies likely to improve your strength and resiliency. Your body type identifies physical and mental characteristics as well as your personal strengths and weaknesses. The calculation of your body type is based on your medical history.

The 3 functional body types (doshas), are Catabolic (Vata), Metabolic (Pitta), and Anabolic (Kapha). Catabolic individuals tend to break down body mass into energy. They are easily stimulated, hyperactive, underweight and dry. Metabolic individuals tend to burn or use energy. They tend to be rosy-cheeked, easily irritated, focused, driven, and easily inflamed. Anabolic individuals tend to store energy as body mass. If they store too much energy, they could gain weight easily and have congestion. Anabolic people tend to be stable and grounded.

I love the flavor and the aroma, it is spicy in a different way, than I am used to and that is good, I have to admit some times I like to just open the jar and enjoy the aroma. I was so frustrated with conventional treatment for heartburn that I was willing to do anything. I have been interested in Ayurveda for years and finally found Joseph. Now with my new modified diet I believe Weight Away has helped in eliminating my heartburn. and the 5lb I have lost was a nice surprise.
- Torrey Clement, Canton, NC , 06-05-10 (Reply)
The product is working well after I got in the habit of using it 15 minutes prior to eating. I am ready to order another jar!

My question is I take prescription blood pressure medicine will this affect it in anyway?
- Paula, Aurora, CO , 01-04-13 (Reply)
The ingredients in Weight Away are designed to reduce water weight as well as boost fat metabolism. This should reduce blood pressure. However, it is important to check with your medical doctor before changing your herbs, diet or lifestyle. Thanks for asking!
The directions says eat directly from the jar or dissolve 1 tsp per 50 lbs of body weight. If you eat directly what is the amount?
- Lora Hurd, Ponca city, OK , 02-03-13 (Reply)
Dear Lora - The amount will be the same. Thanks for asking! -John
Even if you have a Vata constitution, weight gain is a Kapha problem. When Vata and Kapha are out balance, generally address Kapha with diet and Vata with lifestyle. Since Weight Away primarily targets the issue of diet, circulation, and congested blood - it can be used for Vata people with excess weight. Great question.
Do you eat it or can you mix it in hot water? If so how much? Thanks Edith
- Kat, Baltimore, MD , 03-22-13 (Reply)
Dear Edith, You can eat it or mix it in water. The dosage is the same for both. -John
If I take 1tsp. for every 50lbs. of body weight I would take 5 tsp. Is that before each meal or daily? Your web site says 1tsp. before meals and but the manufacturer's instructions say 1 tsp. per 50lbs. I'm a bit confused. Thank you.
- Amy Jo Zelmer, Baroda, MI , 04-02-13 (Reply)
Dear Amy, We have a suggested a more conservative dosage than the manufacturer. There is no exact 'right' answer - but you can try both and see which feels better. Or, a consultation can help resolve this issue for you. Thanks for asking!
At 9.6 oz per container, how many 1 tsp servings are there?
- PerfectHealthTucson, Marana, AZ , 05-08-13 (Reply)

John, how long should a person consume Weight Away? Is there a protocol for spacing use/rest/use/rest? Thank you for ALL your assistance.
- PerfectHealthTucson, Marana, AZ , 05-09-13 (Reply)
Ayurveda recommends (for any herb, food, or lifestyle practice) a 3 months on, 1 month off schedule.
I love this product! Taking it mostly for my sugar, and I do not experience lows anymore. The taste has grown on me, and my husband has joined me. And I am definitely leaner without even trying to loose weight. I'll be ordering my 3rd jar or more soon. Great combination. Thank you. Maryse New Castle, DE

It's hard to give general advice for specific situations without knowing all the details. Consider making an appointment for a one on one consultation with one of our practitioners. If that's not possible, you might purchase one of our Personal Body Books to get more perspective on what will be most supportive to your imbalances.

- Emily, New york, NY , 08-20-17 (Reply)
Hi Emily, as we are focused on our growing school, we are no longer shipping physical products from our website. You can find similar products at BanyanBotanicals.com with storage instructions. You're right, ghee doesn't need to be refrigerated! Generally it can last up to a year providing it is stored properly - super important not to let any moisture in there! However it's good to remember that the medicinal effects of the herbs can get stronger over time.
