Prep:
Finely chop onion. Set aside 1/4c of onion to be used as a garnish. Rinse this 1/4c of onion under water to remove some of the sharpness. Mince garlic. Squeeze juice out of 1 lemon into a small dish. Use 6oz tomato paste or chop 2 tomatoes and boil until sauce is thick and reduced. Chop parsley.
1. Heat 1 tbsp olive oil and add 1/2c onion. Cook until tender, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and continue cooking for 10 seconds. Add beans and salt. If using canned beans, add bean liquor and cook for thirty minutes. If using dried beans, add 4c water, bring to a boil, then lower heat to simmer and cook uncovered for three hours or until beans are tender. The beans are done when they lack any hint of chaulkiness in the center. Remove beans and reduce bean liquor to 1c. Add beans back to pot.
2. Stir in cumin, lemon juice, tahini and tomato and continue cooking another 5 minutes.
3. Blend in food processor to desired consistency. Garnish with raw onion, chopped parsley, and remaining olive oil (1tbsp).
Serve warm or chilled.

The 3 functional body types
(doshas),

Catabolic people tend to be easily stimulated, hyperactive, underweight and dry.

Rajasic foods stimulate desire or nervous energy. Red meat, high protein food, garlic and onions stimulate desire. Rajasic foods include chili peppers, coffee, and anything that stimulates movement.
Prana is the Sanskrit word for vital life energy, similar to Qi in Chinese Medicine. Many herbs stimulate your energy, or improve the flow of prana through your body. Generally, prana needs to be increased in spring after a sleepy winter.
Ojas is the essence of healthy tissue, immunity, stable energy and happiness. Substances that improve ojas are recommended after long-term illness, debility, emotional and physical trauma, and even sadness.
A member of the plant family Solanaceae. Members of this family have a tendency to irritate the liver and arthritic conditions. Tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, and bell peppers.
