CLINICAL AYURVEDIC REVIEW

Enticing aromatic spices fill the kitchen, tempting you to the table with their romantic allure. Your tastes are awakened by richly sweet dates, heart warmed by cinnamon. Cardamom's softly aromatic tones create a truly romantic flavor. Roasted Rice with Dates, Cinnamon & Cardamom is a decadent dish to serve your loved one on a sweet evening in! Lovely as a side dish for Mediterranean lamb dishes, any number of vegetables, or even as a sweet dessert, you can't pass this recipe up!

A Healthy New Glow

In Ayurveda, the word for juicy, sensual vitality is "ojas." Some special foods have lots of ojas, and, as it happens, you can eat them if you feel the need to increase your sense of vitality and juiciness. (There are probably not many people who don't yearn for that sweet sensuality in life.) In the ancient texts of Ayurveda, Ojas is said to have the smell of toasted rice. The main two ingredients in this recipe, dates and rice, increase ojas in your body, thereby giving you a healthy, happy glow.

Nurturing for Fall Fragility

In the Fall, dry wind is the culprit for many undesirable effects including dry skin, dry eyes, fatigue, constipation, and insomnia. If you are feeling any one of these symptoms in your body, add extra ghee to this recipe. It will give you a late autumn calming energy boost, as well as rehydrate your system.

Soothes Your Belly, Warms Your Heart

Roasted Rice with Dates, Cinnamon and Cardamom is very easy to digest. It's even perfect for those who are recovering from illnesses or suffering from weak digestion. Sometimes, feeling rundown leaves us feeling sad- this recipe is the remedy for both! The soft, soothing nature of rice and dates will calm your belly and help you feel strong and stable. The aromatic spices, cinnamon in particular, will tonify your heart so you feel once more like everything will turn out alright in the end.

Metabolic Nature of Roasted Rice with Dates, Cinnamon & Cardamom

See a complete list of all biocharacteristics.

METABOLIC NATURE

Metabolic Nature

Ayurveda assesses metabolic imbalances through 20 main biocharacteristics (gunas). Aggravating them weakens your body and causes imbalance. By knowing which biocharacteristics are habitually imbalanced in your body, you will be able to identify and correct metabolic imbalances before you get sick. Every biocharacteristic has an opposite which balances it (i.e. hot balances cold). You restore balance by favoring diet and lifestyle choices that increase the opposite biocharacteristic.

Taste is used to sense the most basic properties and effects of food. Each taste has a specific medicinal effect on your body. Cravings for food with certain tastes indicate your body is craving specific medicinal results from food. Taste is experienced on the tongue and represents your body's reaction to foods. Sweet taste causes physical satisfaction and attraction whereas bitter taste causes discomfort and aversion. Kapha should use less sweet taste while Vata and Pitta would benefit from using more sweet taste. One of the first signs of illness is that your taste and appetite for food changes. DOSHAS

The Three Doshas / Body Types

Ayurveda is a metabolic theory of medicine that explains individual health, tendencies, and disease patterns through the concept of doshas, which can be understood as your metabolic patterns and tendencies.

Each dosha reflects a distinct metabolic nature and describes strengths & weaknesses in bodily function, and how these affect energy levels, digestion, susceptibility to disease, and many other tendencies.

Your metabolic nature not only affects your physical characteristics, but also influences your mental thought patterns, confidence, and enthusiasm.

Ayurveda balances these metabolic strengths & weaknesses to support your body's vitality and prevent recurrent disease cycles. This support is a critical aid, especially in chronic or incurable disease conditions.

The 3 metabolic body types (doshas), are Catabolic (Vata), Metabolic (Pitta), and Anabolic (Kapha).

Through dosha, Ayurveda empowers people to identify metabolic imbalances early, break repetitive patterns of disease, and cultivate habits that support long-term vitality and well-being.

Ultimately, these metabolic patterns also provide a framework for understanding yourself, including body, mind, and spiritual tendencies.

“It is more of a spiced rice dish than a rice pudding. Cook the rice as you would normally prepare basmati rice. If there is too much water, you can decrease the amount so that the rice is per your taste! "
