Chronic infections may be a sign of low immunity, a strong pathogen, or damage or irregularity in the tissues or fluids that creates conditions for the pathogen to thrive.

For example high blood sugar encourages bacteria or fungal growth, and this is why Ayurveda recommends you 'starve a fever.'

Chronic infections may include virus, bacteria, worms or other parasites.

Ayurveda generally approaches infections in the following way:

• Clean the infection area (including internal cleansing techniques like panchakarma)
• Reduce & eliminate toxins (ama)
• Rekindle the body's fire (agni)
• Take antimicrobial or anthelminthic herbs, etc
