WHAT DOES IT MEAN? WHAT'S CAUSING IT? WHAT CAN YOU DO?
Are you prone to a problem with 'Green stool'?
Green poop is caused by a bright green fluid called bile, secreted by the liver. Bile helps you digest fat and helps you absorb fat soluble vitamins. It is also an intestinal lubricant that softens the stool.
Your stool is initially green in your intestines. Your poop progressively changes from green to yellow to brown as it winds its way down your digestive tract and is fermented by bacteria along the way.
What does Green Stool Mean?Your stool may be green because it has moved too quickly through the digestive tract, and has not fermented properly. In that case, green stool is caused by undigested bile. Undigested bile is caustic and irritating to the colon. Certain foods can also cause green stool, including green vegetables, spirulina and other foods high in chlorophyll.
What You Can DoAnything that causes diarrhea or decreases bowel transit time can turn stools green, including spicy food, irritants like coffee and alcohol, and laxatives. Parasites & infections can also cause diarrhea. If your bowels are irritated from undigested bile, it makes the diarrhea worse.
STAGE OF DISEASE 1 - AFFECTING DIGESTIONIf you have symptoms in this category, your body is sending you a warning sign. Since digestion is so metabolically intensive and sensitive to stress and emotions, the earliest warning signs of imbalance usually appear in the digestive tract first. You may have gas and bloating, for example, or acid reflux. Ayurveda recommends paying careful, close attention to warning signs. They indicate that an imbalance is starting to accumulate. Correct these warning signs before they accumulate further and weaken your body's resistance. This is usually accomplished by removing diet and lifestyle habits that aggravate your imbalanced doshas and qualities.
