Circulation
Sitting in a chair for long periods can cause lymphatic congestion and sluggish circulation, which leads to inflammation. Throughout the day, your organs depend on good circulation to stay fresh and clean. A sedentary lifestyle means that your organs aren't getting cleaned properly. "Sitting is the new smoking," exclaims Scott Blossom in a unique interview with Joyful Belly.
It's important to start your day right to prepare for your workday. Exercise in morning after getting out of bed, before working. Circulation is already stagnant after a long night of sleeping. It is best to resolve this stagnation before beginning your workday, so the problem does not compound.
Also take ten minutes for mild exercise before lunch, and at the end of workday, such as a brief walk. Try the following routine every hour during your workday:
Chair twist - grab back of chair
Touch the sky
Roll shoulders
Spread eagle - arms stretched laterally, looking up at 45degree angle
The following herbs can also improve circulation during the workday:
Tulsi
Turmeric
Lemongrass
Ginger
Stress
Stress tends to build up throughout the workday. People tend to think they can get more done than they actually can. Stress is an active overstimulated state. If you are sitting, the activity is never discharged and irritates the nervous system, causing a Vata imbalance.
Posture
If you work for long hours in a chair, consider the ideal seating posture:
Belly button forward / Tailbone down
Knees below hip socket
Shoulders dropped
Eye Strain
Staring at a computer screen for long periods of time strains your eye muscles, because they must hold your eye in a precise, fixed position. Also, staring at a computer screen, a fixed distance from your eye, doesn't flex your eye lens enough. The result is that your eye lens may lose elasticity, and you may lose long range focus ability. The following eye exercises can help:
Try reading for ten minutes a day. The left/right movement relaxes your eye.
Move your eye left/right, up/down, in circles for 8 times each.
Look at objects far/near in succession to stretch lens

HOW DOES AYURVEDA WORK?
Ayurveda starts by identifying your body type,
which identifies certain tendencies in your body to get sick (as well as identifying your strengths).
It uses body type to determine the likely root causes of your disorders.
Next, Ayurveda analyzes the nature of your disorder.
It fits all your signs and symptoms into a pattern, expressed as a combination of biocharacteristics (gunas).
For example, you may have a heat disorder, a cold disorder, or an oily disorder, etc.
This simple categorical approach shows you how to correct systemic imbalances and strengthen your body as a whole.
On Joyful Belly, we've created an extensive categorization of food so you can easily match food to your imbalanced biocharacteristics.
By eating an optimal diet that balances your biocharacteristics, your whole body is strengthened
and the conditions that created the disorder are removed. Once the root causes of the disease
are removed, the disease lessens in strength or disappears altogether. Additional remedies -
such as herbs and lifestyle practices - focused on the specific disorder, can greatly enhance
your healing.
